Late August in Elkhorn: A New Main Street Lunch, a Weekend at Elkhorn Shores, and Where Everyone's Eating Now

The last two weekends of August tend to sneak past. School supply lists show up, the pool schedule shortens, and the calendar you meant to fill in June is suddenly asking what you did with your summer. This year the answer is closer to home than it has been in a while.

For years the honest read on Elkhorn was that the houses were here but the nightlife was a fifteen-minute drive east. That has shifted. Between a new restaurant taking over one of Olde Towne's most missed addresses, a returning festival at Elkhorn Shores, and a growing cluster of independent kitchens along 203rd and 204th, the late-summer social calendar now fits inside the 68022 ZIP code. Below is what is actually open, opening, or happening in the next few weeks, with enough detail to plan around.

Main Street's Missing Piece Finally Comes Back

If you have lived here since 2023, you know the corner. Bella Vita Ristorante closed in 2023 at 2620 Main Street in downtown Elkhorn, and the building sat quiet through two summers of Elkhorn Days parades. That is changing.

The former Bella Vita space is being transformed by the owners of Main Street Cellar. The main floor will become La Vida Nova, expected to open in May 2026, while an unnamed fine dining concept will open upstairs a few months later. The reporting from last winter framed the timeline as La Vida Nova opening in May, with the second-floor restaurant opening a couple months later, which puts the upstairs debut squarely in the window we are in now.

Two things worth pausing on. The first is that the property owner is preserving the original structure while creating space for two restaurants, with the downstairs housing La Vida Nova, meaning "The New Life," and the upstairs offering a chef's tasting menu, each with its own kitchen. That is not the shape of a casual retrofit. Two full kitchens in one building is a serious commitment to Main Street as a dining destination rather than a lunch stop between errands. The second is the operator: the Main Street Cellar team already understands Olde Towne foot traffic. They are not testing the market. They are doubling down on it.

For residents, the practical effect is that you can now walk to a real lunch on a Wednesday without pointing the car at Village Pointe.

The Last Weekend of the Month Belongs to Elkhorn Shores

Save August 29 and 30. The 22nd Annual Nebraska Renaissance Faire and Medieval Pageant and 17th Annual Midlands Pirate Festival run two festivals over one weekend, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Elkhorn Shores.

The venue matters. Elkhorn Shores sits at 23101 W Maple Rd, Elkhorn, NE 68022, which for most of the neighborhood is a five to ten minute drive. That is a meaningful contrast to the Renaissance Festival of Nebraska over in Papillion, which runs at the Bellevue Berry Farm at 11001 South 48th Street, Papillion NE 68133 in May. Same broad category of event, entirely different logistics. Elkhorn Shores in August is your neighborhood; Bellevue Berry Farm in May is a road trip.

What is actually there? A family-friendly Renaissance festival with many stages of entertainment, lane acts, over 50 merchant booths, food, drink, and a pub. Last year's admission was $18 for adults, $10 for kids ages 6 to 13, and free for kids 5 and under, which is a useful anchor while this year's gate pricing settles.

A note on names: this is not the same event as the Renaissance Festival of Nebraska in Papillion. The Elkhorn Shores organizers make the point plainly, that they are a separate entity from any Renaissance festival happening elsewhere in the metro. If you are texting friends about it, "the one at Elkhorn Shores" is the phrase that keeps the plans straight.

A Midweek Pin: National IPA Day at Corner Tap

If a full-weekend festival is more than the calendar allows, put August 6 in your phone. Corner Tap is hosting National IPA Day from 2:00 to 10:00 p.m. It is a Thursday, it is walkable from most of central Elkhorn, and it is the kind of low-key anchor that turns a weeknight into an actual evening out.

Corner Tap already lands on the shortlist of Elkhorn regulars. Current favorites in Elkhorn include Javi's Tacos, Double Zero Pizzeria, El Alambre Mexican Food, PROOF 192 Whiskey Bar and Craft Cocktails, and Corner Tap, which is a reasonable snapshot of where the room is these days.

Two New Reasons to Change Your Morning and After-Dinner Habits

The two additions that have most quietly changed daily life here are on 204th and 203rd.

Breakfast first. Time to Rise and Shine is located at the former Suny Side Elkhorn space at 2611 North 204th Street, and it is the latest creation of Javier Trujillo, the local restaurant owner of Javi's Tacos, Helados Locos, and Frosty Mugs Sports Bar. A single operator running four concepts inside Elkhorn tells you something about how the market has matured. Trujillo's expansion into the breakfast and brunch segment reflects his commitment to diversifying and enriching the Elkhorn dining scene. Practically, it means there is now a full-service brunch address on 204th that is not a chain and not a drive.

After dinner, Stella's Ice Cream opened its first Omaha Metro area location in 2025 at 4002 N 203rd St, Elkhorn. Stella's is one of those names that carries weight for anyone who has been in eastern Nebraska for any length of time. Having the first metro outpost land in Elkhorn rather than closer to downtown is a small but revealing choice about where the growth is.

If You Are Staying In for Dinner

Two Elkhorn kitchens are worth naming for the nights you want the full sit-down version of the evening.

  • Approach at Indian Creek. Open year-round in Elkhorn, Approach at Indian Creek is a chef-driven restaurant serving polished cuisine inspired by Midwestern ingredients and global technique. It is inside the Club at Indian Creek at 3825 N 202nd Street, and it is the closest thing Elkhorn has to a special-occasion address.
  • Talus Spirits and Sustenance. Talus is a chef-owned restaurant featuring American dishes showcasing a fusion of global influences inspired by mountain ranges around the world, with craft cocktails, Nebraska and Iowa breweries, and intriguing wines.
  • PROOF 192. A whiskey bar and craft cocktail room that keeps turning up on the short list of what people in Elkhorn actually recommend to each other.

Three sit-down options inside Elkhorn is not a long list. It is a longer list than it was two years ago, which is the point.

A Late-August Cheat Sheet

For the group text you are about to send:

  • Any weekday this month. Lunch at La Vida Nova, 2620 Main Street, in Olde Towne.
  • Any morning this month. Breakfast or brunch at Time to Rise and Shine, 2611 N 204th Street.
  • Saturday and Sunday, August 29 and 30, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nebraska Renaissance Faire and Midlands Pirate Festival at Elkhorn Shores, 23101 W Maple Road.
  • Any evening. Stella's Ice Cream, 4002 N 203rd Street.

The Bigger Shift Behind All of This

Read the calendar carefully and a pattern shows up. A new lunch address on Main Street. A festival that used to feel like a drive is now in the neighborhood. A single Elkhorn operator running four independent concepts. A regional ice cream name choosing 203rd for its first metro store. None of that is a coincidence. It is the ordinary evidence that a suburb has stopped being a bedroom for somewhere else.

If you have lived here for a while, you already sense this. If you are new, this month is a fair sample of what a normal August will look like going forward.

When you are ready to talk about what any of this means for your address specifically, or your next one, Reid English Group is happy to sit down over coffee. Schedule a Consultation and we will make time this week.
